5 Brothers of Bride Uses Recording of Late Father’s Voice During Father-Daughter Dance

The father-daughter dance is often a tearjerker at any wedding, but for one Utah bride, the dance took on an achingly beautiful, bittersweet tone when her five older brothers stepped in to dance with their sister since their father, who had passed away, could not.
Standing on the dance floor in her bridal gown, Kaley West Young was overwhelmed with emotion when her brothers explained how the father-daughter dance was going to work.
Each brother — Kevin, Dustin, Danny, Derek and Kasey — was going to dance with Kaley to Michael Bolton’s song, “Fathers and Daughters,” during the reception on Sept. 22.
The brothers edited clips of home video that Kaley’s dad had taken over the years, so that her father’s voicespoke over the music as the song played.

The moment was beautiful, bringing the room to tears as they listened to the voice of David Jean West, who died suddenly in March 2015, telling Kaley how much he loved her.
WJLA-TV caught up with the new bride who was on her honeymoon in Italy to speak with her about the unforgettable experience.
“I was completely in shock,” Kaley said. “I know people joke about having an out-of-body experience but that is what it truly was being in the middle of the ballroom and surrounded by my family, and my husband’s family, and our friends and people we care about with my brothers stepping up. It was an incredible moment.”
The video clip reached the eyes and ears of Michael Bolton himself, who said he was “humbled and honored,” that the West family would use his song for such a meaningful, incredible moment.

Kaley told WJLA that the video isn’t just about her, but reaches a larger audience of people who have experienced love and loss.
“This video isn’t about me or my family; it’s about the most important thing in life which is our loved ones,” she said.
“Every single person experiences loss, or will experience loss, in those moments can be deep sorrow and despair.

“However, I want it to be a reminder that you are never alone. Love transcends beyond the physical body and whoever is going through a great loss, no matter what it may be, you are never alone and you are loved.”
